LIFE IN THE NEW YEAR

Well 2008 proved to be a blessed year for us. We placed our lives in the hands of God and great things have come from our faith in Him. We look forward to another great year and many changes have already begun to happen for us in 2009.

Derik has become very interested in hunting and is looking into getting a rifle and other hunting equipment. He has been practicing shooting at a local gun range with my brother and step-father. He is looking forward to a fruitful hunting season with my dad and brother and hopefully getting to fill up our freezer with an assortment of meats! Yummy! My only stipulation is that he doesn't bring the dead animal home first....straight to the processor I say!!

As for me I am starting back to school on January 20th, on my birthday of all days! I am a little nervous as it has been about 4 years since or more since I have taken a college course, but Derik and the rest of my family are very supportive so I am sure I won't have any trouble getting back into the swing of it. I am planning on taking the few classes I need this semester in order to reapply to Nursing school. Since I have been out for so long I have to start from scratch, but that is okay; in fact it is probably a great thing.

What else can I tell you? Well I have been taking a lot of pictures. I got a brand new camera so stay tuned for lots of new pictures. I am also hoping to make a website soon just for my more artistic pictures...you know the ones that aren't centered around the family. So there will be a link from here to there; be watching for it.

Other than that life is really laid back for us. We get up in the morning and have a cup of coffee together, chit chat about what we are going to do during the day and then slowly make our way to doing it. Once our day winds down we cook dinner and watch a little tv, usually a movie we have selected on Netflix and are watching instantly on the Roku box or a show Derik has downloaded through the torrent site and is streaming directly through the PS3. Then we have this awesome honey milk chai tea Derik makes and it is off to bed! Not a bad life!!! In our free time we spend time with the family. In fact we just helped my grandparents paint some old farm equipment at my Uncle's house. There will be pictures. And we definitely cuddle with our dogs Rylee & Ripley. We have also become very interested in the game Spore, in fact if I can't find Derik he is probably playing Spore! It is so much fun. anyways that is enough for now. I will update you more on the interesting life of the Palacino's as the year 2009 progresses.

About 2 1/2 weeks ago I quit my job because it wasn't the best working environment for me and I was bringing a lot of stress home which isn't a good thing. I finally reached my breaking point and my wonderfully supportive husband told me I needed to get out of the bad job situation I was in and we would figure out how to make things work from there. All I can say is I am truly, truly blessed to have Derik in my life. He was absolutely right about things working out.

I began my job search immediately after getting home the day after resigning and after a few days of sending out resumes and driving around town filling out applications with no call backs I was already getting frustrated with job searching(my expectations of myself are set unrealistically high). So, Derik did a google search on work from home opportunities and found an ABCnews.com article on the topic with various legit companies listed. I proceeded to spend the better part of a Saturday morning applying to these places. One of the companies in particular caught our eye and Derik got a little excited at the potential opportunity. After spending about 2 hours on this company's screening exams and passing I received an email asking me to do a voice audition (since this is for a virtual call center opportunity) and I called in right away. Shortly after I completed the call I received another email saying I passed the voice screening and they needed to run a background check before I could start training; Derik told me to go ahead and move forward with the process and I started training on Monday. I am now the owner of my own company and have a contract with Apple to run a virutal call center from our home. I start Apple's training on October 6th and Derik and I believe that this is the beginning of something really great!

A NORMAL DAY
On any given day you will find us waking up around 7am to get ready for work. Derik will make us coffee and then we go out back and drink coffee and chat a bit before we start our day. Things are much more relaxed for us now that I am not having to drive 40 miles to work every morning. Ahh..now we both get to stay home and work in our pajamas until after lunch. This is definitely the life. Not to mention I can actually keep up with the house work now and the stress level has decreased like you would not believe. All I can say is life is way too short to work some where that you are unhappy. Now Derik and I get to spend more time together and it is really strengthening our relationship. Good news all around here! After work we cook dinner and then we usually relax with a little television and our dogs then its off to bed before we start it all over again.

EXTRA STUFF
We absolutely love spending time spoiling our dogs. Rylee is Derik's baby girl and Ripley is my boy. When I first brought Rylee home though Derik was mad at me because she made our 6th dog. We are now down to just 2 dogs because we adopted the rest out to good homes. Derik and Rylee have a very special relationship, they even talk(well bark and growl at each other) and I am positive they know what each other are saying. Ripley is our digger dog, he likes to make holes in the backyard to keep cool, but he is super adorable! I am trying to take the dogs on walks every day now since I am home in hopes that it will "cure" come of their destructive behavior. We are also working on teaching ourselves Italian, as we are hoping to move to Italy in the not too distant future. Derik is way ahead of me in the lessons and he is doing really well at it I might add. Other than that we have of course spent time on this website and time researching both sides of our family's geneaolgy. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our home and can't wait to complete all our ideas! Keep checking back for more pictures!!!!
